Guides
How to use Jibat
Short, step-by-step guides for every feature. In the app, Settings › What Jibat can do opens the same list with a button straight to each one.
Start · 1
Set up your first job
- Open Jibat. The first screen asks for your job's name and hourly rate, for example Target, $22.00.
- Check the currency (suggested from your phone's region) and the overtime: after 40 hours a week at 1.5× is set for you, and you can change it.
- Turn on I receive tips if you get tips, and pick a calendar color or keep the suggested one.
- Add your next payday and how often you're paid, if you know it. You can do this later.
- Tap Start tracking.
Paid a salary? Tap Paid a salary? Set that up instead at the top. Have a backup from another phone? Tap New phone? Restore a backup. Want to look around first? Set up later opens Home with every way to add work.
Start · 2
Finish setting up a job
Each job's page starts with a Finish setting up card. It shows the next thing worth telling Jibat, with progress like 2 of 6 done. Tap See all 6 steps for the whole list.
- Your usual shifts: see what you'll earn before you work it.
- Your payday: know when the next paycheck lands and check it.
- Check your overtime: confirm or change how overtime works.
- Sunday, night or holiday pay: set extra pay rules once.
- Do you get tips? Turn on the tip buttons.
- Your take-home: estimate what lands after taxes.
Tap a step to go straight there, or Not for me to skip it (Undo brings it back). The close button hides the card; Settings › What Jibat can do can show it again. Home shows the same card for the first job with steps left.
Start · 3
Clock in, pause and clock out
- On Home, tap Clock in · Target. With several jobs, the one whose shift is on now comes first.
- The money counts live, including overtime once you reach it. Tap Pause for an unpaid break, Resume after.
- Tap Clock out. The shift summary shows the time, the money and how it was worked out, and asks for tips if the job gets them.
You can also clock in, pause and clock out from your lock screen and the home screen widget. Clocked in by mistake? Tap Undo in the message that appears.
Two things at once: while one timer runs, tap Clock in to another job, or start a project or an activity. Jibat asks first and says what's running. Two jobs (or a job and a project) are both paid in full, and the overlap shows under Needs review so you can keep both or fix one; an activity next to a shift is never flagged. Tick Don't warn me again if you do this often, and turn the warning back on at Settings › Warn before overlapping timers.
Forgot to clock out? If a timer runs much longer than your usual shift, a Needs review banner appears on Home. Tap it, then Set end time to save the shift as it should have ended, or Still working.
Start · 4
Log a shift afterwards, or fix one
- Tap +, then Log a shift. Pick the job, the day, the start and end, and any breaks.
- To change a shift, open it from Timeline (or tap its day), then tap the pencil (Edit shift).
- To delete one, open it and delete. The message has Undo, and you can restore it later from its day.
Shifts over midnight, across time zones and through daylight saving changes are handled: the money lands on the day each piece of work falls on.
Your pay · 1
Set up overtime
- Open Sources › your job › Overtime.
- Choose Weekly (after 40 hours, for example), Daily (after 8 hours a day), Both, or none.
- Pick the rate: 1.5×, 2×, 1× or your own. Add double time after a number of hours in a day if your job has it.
- Tap Save, then choose when it starts: Today, a date, or Apply to existing shifts (you see what changes first).
At 1×, overtime hours are still counted and shown, but paid at your normal rate. Overtime is free on every plan.
Your pay · 3
Base pay per shift
For jobs that pay a fixed amount per shift on top of the hours, like show-up pay.
- Open Sources › your job › Extra pay.
- Tap Base pay per shift, enter the amount (for example $10.00), and Save.
- Choose when it starts. Leave the amount empty to remove it.
Your pay · 4
One shift paid differently
Open the shift from Timeline, or tap its day. Below the breakdown:
- Holiday or special pay: 1.5×, 2×, 2.5×, 3× or your own multiplier, with a reason (Holiday, Weekend, Event). You can also set it while the timer runs.
- Add pay: a bonus, commission, call-out pay, hazard pay, a shift differential, a holiday premium or other, with a note. Each shows on its own line; remove it with the ×.
- Add tip (jobs with I receive tips on).
- Paid for a different time: worked 7 hours but paid 10? Enter 10. Leave it empty to go back to the time worked.
Everything adds to the shift's total, the day, the week and your next paycheck.
Your pay · 5
Raises and rate changes
- Open Sources › your job › Pay & rates and tap Change rate.
- Enter the new rate and choose: Today, Choose date (a raise that started last Monday), or Apply to existing shifts.
- For existing shifts, Jibat shows what changes first, for example This recalculates 14 shifts: +$42.00. Nothing changes until you tap Apply.
Past rates stay listed with their dates. Shifts already tracked keep their pay unless you apply the change to them.
Plan · 1
Your shift schedule and expected pay
- Open Sources › your job › Shift schedule, or tap + then Schedule shifts.
- Tap Add repeating shift. Use Weekdays, Weekends or Every day, or pick days, then the start and end. A shift that ends after midnight ends the next morning.
- For a job without steady hours, or an extra shift, tap Add one-off shift.
- Under Next 2 weeks, tap Day off on any shift you won't work.
Then Home's This week shows what's still ahead (+$704.00 expected · $880.00 projected), priced with your rate, overtime and extra pay rules. Goals say if you're on track, the calendar outlines scheduled shifts, and you get a reminder 15 minutes before each one.
Missed a shift? If a scheduled shift ended in the last 3 days with nothing tracked, Needs review asks: Log it (saved as scheduled) or I was off.
Plan · 2
Paydays and checking your paycheck
- Open Sources › your job › Pay schedule. Choose weekly, every 2 weeks, twice a month or monthly, and your next payday.
- Home's Next pay card shows what the pay period has earned so far, plus what scheduled shifts still add.
- On payday, tap the card (or + › Record a paycheck, or the payday reminder) and enter your gross pay, and net if you like.
- Jibat shows Matched, or how much you were short or over.
Take-home estimate: open Sources › your job › Estimated take-home and enter a rough deduction rate, like 22%. Once you record a paycheck with its net pay, Jibat learns from it instead.
A period with a recorded paycheck is closed. Changing a shift inside it asks you to reopen it first.
Plan · 3
Goals and insights
- Open Insights and tap Set an earnings goal. Choose weekly, monthly or yearly and an amount.
- The goal shows on Insights and Home: what you've earned, what's left, and about how many hours at your rate would cover it.
- With a shift schedule, weekly and monthly goals say whether your scheduled shifts get you there. A yearly goal is projected at your scheduled pace.
Insights also shows this month against the same point last month and where your money came from. Pro adds six months of trends, your average week, pay per hour per job, and paycheck history. Tap a month or a goal to see every day in it.
Plan · 4
Earning in more than one currency
Each job keeps its own currency, and totals are never mixed by accident. To see everything together:
- Open Insights. With two currencies, chips appear at the top: one per currency, and All in USD (your app currency).
- Under Currencies, tap Set rate next to the other currency. Pick the month and enter your rate, for example 1 EUR = 1.08 USD.
- Tap All in USD. A month without its own rate uses the latest earlier one; money with no rate at all is listed as not included.
Home's week and your goals use the same rates. Your tracked amounts always stay in their own currency.
Other work · 1
Gig and variable income
- Tap +, then Gig or variable income, and name it (Uber, Etsy).
- To record a payout, tap + › Add income: the amount, the day, and optionally time worked, a tip and a note.
- Open a payment to add a bonus or commission to it.
With time worked filled in, Insights can show your pay per hour next to your hourly jobs.
Other work · 2
A salary
Tap + › Salary, enter the yearly amount and how often you're paid. Each pay period's share shows as expected until the period ends, then earned on its last day. Raises work like hourly raises.
Other work · 3
Projects and freelance work
- Tap + › New project. Choose Hourly (with an optional base fare), Fixed price or Hourly with a cap.
- Add estimated hours to get a quote you can copy, for example $50.00 base fare + 8 h × $40.00/h = $370.00.
- Create and start, then Pause, End for now and Resume as you work. Tap Mark as completed when it's done.
A project can belong to a job or stand alone. With a cap, the timer stops counting money once the cap is reached.
Charging sales tax or VAT? Under Tax on your price, pick Add on top (your prices are without tax and invoices add it) or Included (your prices include it: Jibat counts what's yours without it, and invoices show the tax), and type the rate. The quote shows the tax, and invoices for the project add it for you.
Other work · 4
Study, volunteering and workouts
Some time isn't paid but still counts. An activity uses the same timer and calendar as a job, in hours instead of money, and stays out of your earnings.
- Tap + › Activity (or Sources › Add activity). Pick a name, such as Studying, Volunteering or Workout, and add an hours goal if you like: 10 h a week, or 40 h a year of volunteering.
- On Home, tap Start next to it when you begin, and Stop when you're done. Add a note on what you did: "Chapter 4", "food bank", "leg day".
- Forgot the timer? Open the activity and tap Log a session.
- Need proof of hours for a school or organization? Open the activity, tap Hours report, pick the dates, and share it as a PDF or a CSV. Your name on it is optional.
Activities never count toward your pay, goals, insights or tax set-aside. Free includes two activities on top of your jobs; Pro, as many as you like. Only studying? Tap Studying, volunteering or working out? Track that time on the first screen.
Other work · 5
Focus modePro
For a stretch of deep work or study: a countdown, the task, and a way to stop. Nothing else on the screen.
- Start the timer for a job, project or activity, then tap Focus on it.
- Pick 25, 50 or 90 minutes, a classic 25 + 5 min break × 4, or Custom with your own rounds and breaks. Breaks are optional. Next time, what you picked for that job or activity is already chosen, so it's one tap; pick another any time.
- Tap Start focus. The screen stays on while the countdown shows. Jibat lets you know when a break starts, when to get back to it and when you're done.
- Want the timer to stop by itself? Turn on Clock out when the focus ends (Stop for an activity) before you start. The shift or session is saved ending right when the focus ends, even if Jibat is closed then.
- Done early? End focus keeps the timer going; End and clock out (or stop) ends both. When the focus is done, the task's own timer stays on the screen, still counting.
Breaks pause an activity's timer and pick it up again after. A job keeps counting through a break, because you're still at work. Left the screen? Home shows a banner, and the widget says Focusing on the task; tap the banner to get back. One focus runs at a time: tap Focus on another timer and Jibat asks before switching (the first timer keeps running).
Silencing the phone: on Android, turn on Silence the phone in the focus setup (or Settings › Silence the phone during focus) and allow Jibat to change Do Not Disturb once. Jibat turns on Do Not Disturb (priority only) for the focus and puts it back after. iPhone doesn't let apps turn on Focus or Do Not Disturb, so turn on a Focus from Control Center yourself; Jibat still keeps the screen on.
What you keep · 1
Expenses and miles
- Tap + › Expense or miles (or Add expense or miles on a job's page, a week or a day).
- Pick what it was: gas, miles driven, fees, phone, supplies, parking and tolls, maintenance or other. Enter the amount, the date and the job it was for (or none).
- For miles, enter the distance. The rate is filled in: the IRS business rate for that day in US dollars (76 cents a mile from July 1, 2026), or your own rate. Keep it, or type another rate for this trip only, like an employer's reimbursement rate.
Costs never change what you earned. They show next to it: "$555.00 kept after $85.00 costs" on Home, on a week or day page, on the job's page and in Insights. Set your own rate per mile or km at Settings › Mileage rate. IRS rates are built into the app and work offline; a new year's rate comes with an app update.
What you keep · 2
Tax set-aside
Optional, and off unless you turn it on. It shows what to put away for tax from what you kept (earnings minus costs), for jobs that don't take tax out of your pay.
- Open Settings › Tax set-aside and turn on Set aside for tax.
- Choose A percent (25% to start) or, in US dollars, US tax brackets with your filing status and a state rate if you have one.
- Under Jobs that count, turn off jobs whose paychecks already take tax out. Gigs and projects count to start; hourly jobs and salaries don't.
- Optional: turn on Quarterly due date reminders (3 days before Apr 15, Jun 15, Sep 15 and Jan 15). They never show amounts.
Home's This week then shows "to set aside for tax (estimate)", and the tax page shows this payment period and the year so far.
Jibat tracks your time and earnings. This amount is only an estimate worked out from your own setup. It isn't a tax or business assessment, it isn't tax, legal or financial advice, and it isn't what you owe. For what you owe, check irs.gov or ask a tax professional.
What you keep · 3
Invoices
- Once, add your details: Settings › Invoices › Your details on invoices (your name or business, email, address, how to pay you, and how invoice numbers start).
- Tap + › Invoice, the invoice button on a project's page, or Invoices on a job's page.
- Pick what to bill. A project fills in its base fare or fixed price and each finished session; a job fills in its shifts and income for This month, Last month or Everything not billed.
- Pick the client, or tap New to add one with their email. Untick lines you don't want, change a description, add a line by hand or a discount, and add tax if you charge it.
- Tap Next: send, then Share PDF (Messages, WhatsApp, Files, AirDrop...) or Email (your mail app opens with the PDF attached).
- When you're paid, open the invoice and tap Mark paid. If it's still unpaid the day after it's due, Jibat reminds you (and once more a week later), without showing the amount.
Work on an invoice is never offered again, so nothing is billed twice. Voiding an invoice frees its work. Settings › Invoices lists every invoice and what's waiting to be paid. Free makes 1 invoice a month; Pro, as many as you need.
Your phone
Search Settings and the + menu
There's a lot you can add and set. Type a word in the search box at the top of Settings or the + menu and only what matches stays. Everyday words work: "dark" finds Appearance, "face id" finds Lock Jibat, "reminders" finds every reminder, "gym" finds Activity, "miles" finds Expense or miles, "bill" finds Invoice. Switches work right in the results.
Your phone · 1
Calendar views and colors
At the top of Timeline, switch between List, Day (the day by the hour), 3 days and Month. Each job has its own color; change it at Sources › your job › Calendar color. Scheduled shifts are outlined with what they should pay. Tap anything to open it.
Your phone · 2
Notifications, the lock screen and privacy
- Turn notifications on: Settings › Notifications. If your phone blocks them, Jibat shows the steps for your exact phone and a button to its notification settings.
- Choose what you get: payday reminders, shift reminders, missed clock-out, overdue invoices and the weekly recap each have a switch. Quarterly tax reminders are on the tax set-aside page.
- Lock screen: running timers show there with Pause and Clock out. Turn off Earnings on the lock screen to show the time only.
- Hide amounts: tap the eye on Home to show •••• instead of money. The widget has its own eye.
Notifications never include amounts.
Your phone · 3
Dark mode
Settings › Appearance: System follows your phone (the default), or choose Light or Dark. The widgets and lock screen follow your phone's own setting.
Your phone · 4
Lock Jibat
Turn on Settings › Lock Jibat to ask for Face ID, Touch ID, a fingerprint or your phone's passcode when Jibat opens, right away or after 1 or 5 minutes away. Your phone does the check; Jibat never sees your face, fingerprint or passcode. You need a screen lock set on your phone first.
Your phone · 5
Sharing anonymous usage
A few days after you add your first job, Jibat asks once whether to share anonymous usage: which features are used, like "clock in" or "invoice sent". It's off unless you say yes. It never includes your earnings, amounts, jobs, dates or notes. Change it any time at Settings › Share anonymous usage. Everything else in Jibat works offline.
Your phone · 6
Backup, a new phone and CSV export
Automatic backup (Pro): Jibat saves a backup once a day when something changed, to your iCloud Drive on iPhone or your Google account on Android, and keeps the last 7. Settings › Backup & transfer shows when it last worked, with Back up now and Restore on each one. If backups stop working, Home tells you.
- Anyone can also save a backup file from Settings › Backup & transfer and keep it where they choose (Files, Drive, email to yourself).
- On the new phone, install Jibat and tap New phone? Restore a backup. Automatic backups show first; or choose your file. You can also use Settings › Backup & transfer. iPhone to Android and back both work.
- For a spreadsheet, use Settings › Export CSV and pick the dates.
Your subscription: Settings › Subscription shows your plan and trial days left, with Manage or cancel subscription (opens the App Store or Google Play page) and Restore purchase after a reinstall or on a new phone with the same store account.
Jibat has no account and no server copy of your earnings. If you lose your phone without a backup file, we can't recover your data. Save a backup now and then.
Your phone · 7
Leaving a job
Open the job and tap I've left this job. It disappears from Home, the widget, reminders and pickers, and all its history and totals stay. A running timer is saved first. Tap I'm back on its page to make it current again.
